Friendship

This movie about friendship from 29 Fragile Days would make a good introduction to a study/discussion about friendship. You can find the original post here.

“A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” - Proverbs 18:24

“Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” - John 15:13

MySpace Cheat Sheet

MySpace Cheat Sheet for Parents (and Youth Workers): With all the media attention MySpace is getting, this article can help understand a little about the site, even if you’ve never been there before. The article answers questions like: Can I search MySpace to see if my kid is on it?; Should I be worried that my teenage girl is linked to so many male “friends?”; and How should I talk to them about MySpace?

What is Youth Ministry?

A few weeks ago, I posted in a YM News the question, “What is youth ministry?” In the past few weeks, I have read a few descriptions. Here are a few of them:

For me Youth ministry is about a spectrum of activities that relates the full spectrum of Christian ministry to the realm of youth. This however, is culturally framed and directed – because youth is culturally framed and directed. Youth ministry is inherently heterogeneous and often highly specialised. It also means, as in any form of ministry, that we have to work hard to develop our theological and spiritual base from which, and within which, we do ministry. - Nick Shepherd

Youth Ministry is simply an adult building a relationship with a student. - Jim Rayburn, founder of Young Life

Youth Ministry is an inclusive congregational ministry in which God comes, [through all modes of ministry and with special regard to parents (or their substitutes)] in a differentiated and focussed way to, with and through youth as an integral part of the local faith community and also with and through youth to the world.
- Malan Nel in The Journal of Youth and Theology

Valentine’s Sweets

Valentine’s Day is coming up, so I thought I’d provide some sweet images for you that I got off of The Stock Exchange website. It’s a great website where people upload their stock photos, and many are good for presentation backgrounds or for design. They are all free, and you can search by keyword. So, here are a few of them for you. If you click one of the pictures, a larger version of it will open in another window. Download them, use them, and enjoy. It may take a while to download them (on this page and when you click them).
